Mr. Zuric Chan, Vice Chairman of Chinney Investments, Limited and Chinney Alliance Group Limited, and Chairman of Chinney Kin Wing Holdings Limited, has served the group for nearly half of his life for 35 years. He is a renowned veteran in the construction industry, with 45 years of solid experience . One of his lifelong dreams is to establish a large-scale construction group in Hong Kong that covers one-stop services, foundation work, building construction to electrical and mechanical.

At Chinney Group’s office in Cheung Sha Wan, Mr. Chan puts aside his heavy workload to talk about the journey he has been through, yet the memories of the old days were still fresh. Chinney was undergoing rapid development thirty-five years ago with seven construction sites operating at the same time. Dr. James Wong Sai-wing was looking for an industry professional to coordinate and manage the projects. Mr. Chan was the perfect match given his extensive industry experience. He joined the company as a consultant in September 1989 with an extremely busy work schedule. However, through his capabilities and pragmatic approach, he overcame each and every challenge. As various site projects progressed smoothly the following year in 1990, Dr. Wong invited Mr. Chan to join the group as Director of the Construction Department and he readily accepted the challenge.

“In my first ten years in the group, I was primarily responsible for expanding the Construction Department, establishing various companies for foundation work, building construction, electrical and mechanical engineering and façade services etc. to support the group’s construction activities and lay a firm ground for the one-stop service strategy.” Till now, Chinney Group does not only provide professional and top-quality construction services—including building construction, foundation work, electrical and mechanical engineering, and façade projects—but has also developed and branched out into real estates, trading, and other areas, showcasing the group’s leading position.

In recent years, Chinney Group has effectively utilized the PropTech technology in real estates. Citing the transitional housing project “Yan Chai Residence” as an example, Mr. Chan pointed out that the team employed the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method to expedite the building process via free-standing integrated modules within 10 months time, successfully completed two floors with a total of 212 rooms and managed the construction project seamlessly to maximize the group synergy’s as a one-stop service provider in full fledge.

Construction is not only a complex but specialized industry that involves various departments and work procedures. It requires not only meticulous attention but also problem-solving capabilities. Mr. Chan highlighted one of his best-kept secrets to his success over the years. “From management to general staff level, challenges and issues should be resolved on the very same day, not the day after.

This is the key to our success on timely project completion. We must review and analyze thoroughly the root causes when there is any delay.”
